LBC Membership Guidelines

The LBC Trustees (the Council) have responsibility for the Membership of the charity. The Council wishes to have a broad and active Membership which reflects the high level of engagement which Order members have in the charity’s activities, which form the heart of the Sangha in the area.

Members are expected to support the work of the LBC to whatever extent they feel able and to pay such minimum subscriptions as may be acceptable to the Council. There is currently no subscription. Members will be invited to participate in the AGM each year.

Who can be a Member?

Membership is determined by the Council in accordance with the LBC Constitution. There is no quorum for Members.

Membership is open to members of the Triratna Buddhist Order who meet the following criteria and any criteria from time to time established by the Trustees.

Members must:

1. Be active in the life of both the local Order and the LBC;

2 Understand and support the spiritual principles of the Triratna community and be in harmony with the spirit of the Order and the teachings of its founder, Sangharakshita;

3.Have no serious conflicts with others within the Order that have not been addressed;

4. Be in good standing with their own Preceptors and Kalyana Mitras, and;

5. Have no unaddressed major breaches of the precepts

Members are deemed to be cognisant of these guidelines, a copy of which is to be available for their inspection on request and to be willing to assent to them.

Membership Register:

A Membership register will be drawn up by the Secretary to the Council, including the names and contact details of each Member.

The Membership register can be altered as follows:

1. Newly ordained LBC Order members will automatically be added to the Members list.

2. Any other Order member may apply to become a Member by contacting membership@lbc.org.uk.

3. Order members no longer active in the LBC Sangha will be removed from the register.

4. The Council reserves the right to end the Membership of anyone whose conduct, in the Council’s opinion, renders that Member unsuitable for continued Membership, or who otherwise no longer meet the criteria for Membership.

5. Former Trustees and Presidents and other Order members not or no longer directly involved in the LBC Sangha may apply for Membership or to continue Membership and this will be granted at the discretion of the Council.

6. Membership ceases upon receipt by the Council of written resignation or by the refusal of the member to pay the minimum subscription acceptable to the Council.

Any Member removed from the Register for any reason, or anyone refused new Membership shall be told of the decision and shall be given the opportunity to state his or her case, but the Council’s decision shall be final.
